Vision AI는 눈으로 본 결과를 이해와 결정으로 바꾸는 시각시스템처럼 작용하고 있습니다. 지난 50년 동안 이를 Computer Vision이라는 명칭으로 사용하고, 현재도 사용 중입니다. Vision AI와 Computer Vision은 명확하게 구분하여 양자 사이의 차별성이 분명히 인식되어야 합니다. Rule-based machine learning이란 컴퓨터가 보고 이해하도록 인간이 teaching 또는 rules를 제공하는 것입니다.
Big Data는 Vision AI 발달을 위한 가장 핵심적 요소입니다.
Machine’s self-learning이란 Algorithm을 통해 데이터에 대한 자기주도 학습을 말합니다.
Brain을 통해, 귀, 입으로부터 우리의 감각이 이해와 결정으로 변형되듯이, 인공신경망(artificial neural network)을 통해 컴퓨터가 데이터를 분석하고 예측으로 변환시킵니다.
Image와 video data의 사용을 위해 텍스트 데이터보다 훨씬 높은 컴퓨팅 파워가 요구됩니다.
Vision AI 분야는 음성AI보다 응용성이 훨씬 뛰어난 분야로 초기부터 monetization에 성공했습니다. 2012년경 딥러닝이라는 불리우는 뉴럴네트워크에 기반한 인공지능 알고리즘이 본격적으로 개발되기 시작했습니다. 2012년경 GPU 대량 생산체계가 구축되면서 하드웨어 기반이 마련되었습니다. 2014년 이후 Vision AI의 혁신에 따른 상용화 가능성 증대로 투자가 급증했습니다. 상용화 및 시장규모 측면에서 Vision AI 분야는 타 분야를 압도하며 2016년부터 본격적인 수익 창출 기술로 부각되기 시작했습니다.
그러나 국내의 Vision AI 분야는 단순히 R&D 수준에 머물고 있어 기술측면에서 현격하게 낙후된 상태입니다. 이제, 대한민국 Vision AI의 미래는 서울에서 시작됩니다. MAILab의 글로벌 플랫폼으로 대한민국의 Vision AI기술을 세계로!
